Many boy bands actually feature singers who are really men. Not 4X To Play, a local R&B/hip-hop quartet. Eight-year-old Nono and 9-year-old Lolo front the group. They make their debut this week with “Be My Friend,” a song about wanting to befriend a stranger at school “just so we can have some fun.” With references to getting good grades and bullies, it’s clear the band members are still adolescents. The song mixes R&B and hip-hop, and there’s even a bit of rapping in Spanish. It’s the lead single from the forthcoming album School Detention, which is due out by year’s end. This month, the group will release an official music video for the song too.
