“The announcer labeled the Boy Scouts the ‘future leaders of America,'” Speyer wrote, “and he said the Girls Scouts were ‘just having fun.'”
Speyer asked that the Maple Leaf let others know “how much this kind of thing happens and how bad it is.”
“I feel it is an insult to both girls and women of all ages,” she wrote, of the announcer’s language. “This kind of thing happens way too much and it is not OK at all.”
We couldn’t agree more. While the Maple Leaf published the letter in its July 19 edition, the letter does not appear on the Maple Leaf’s website, though letters from the more recent July 25 edition do.
We’d like to help Julianne push out her message, too. She was disturbed by the announcer’s language and took an action to correct an injustice. We could all learn from her example. Pass it on.

You go, Ms. Speyer!
Parade announcers get little or no info on some floats and the order gets shuffled at the last minute. I’m sure the announcer had to just wing it. Did the Girlscouts give a script or description to the announcer?
Stop searching for something to get offended about.
Seriously ME?! Does anyone really need a script to understand the commitment it takes on both the parents and kids to join an organization such as the Girl Scouts. Yes, Im sure they enjoy being a part of the group as do the Boy Scouts. But the point is to teach both the boys and girls to be Future Leaders and to pretend that what the girls learn is something less than is extremely offensive. I applaud this young lady! Now thats a Future leader of America!
FYI: I followed your link, and the letter *does* appear on the Maple Leaf web site now. Sometimes they listen.
