This weekend, the
Akron Beacon-Journal celebrated the career of one Ralph Schueller, a 33-year veteran of the Akron Fire Department. Schueller has served 3,124 consecutive shifts without once calling in sick or showing up late.
Schueller will retire on March 23 having accumulated more than 1,000 hours of unused sick time and 15 weeks of unused vacation.
Among the more memorable anecdotes from the
ABJ tribute was the birth of Schueller's first daughter. His wife gave birth 12 hours before his shift was to begin, but Schueller still managed to make it to work on time.
A humble, all-business dude, Schueller defined his streak this way: "I just come to work. You come to work when you're supposed to."
