Goodman’s Sandwich Inn closed this summer after 62 years in the corned beef biz. In an ironic twist of fate, the shop is now being run by Corky & Lenny’s.

“We took it over about a month ago,” says Kenny Kurland, owner of the legendary East Side deli. “We don’t even have our sign yet.”

Called Corky & Lenny’s Express (5164 Pearl Rd., 216-351-0010), the casual deli serves massive corned beef and pastrami sandwiches, hot dogs, and other comfort foods Monday through Saturday.

Goodman’s fans will see immediately that the beef is sliced by machine as opposed to by hand, as the Parma deli was known for.

“No one’s gonna sit in the window and hand slice beef anymore,” Kurland quips.

  2. Oh, Ms. Gall – I was so focused on the corned beef . . . and then you mentioned the chicken soup. My mouth was watering! Great childhood memories & some HS memories. I now live in the South & drive a good distance to get a good corned beef on seeded rye w/ some Kosher dills. Many blessings, Corky! Love, Nancy N.

  3. What an awful experience!Service sucked,no table settings,no horseradish,3 sandwiches ordered, all incorrect. What a shame.”No one is going to stand in the window and hand slice beef anymore.”What an arrogant comment. You jerkoff!Like that was a bad thing? How dissapointing coming from a company whose food is not that good anyways!

  4. corky and lenny’s is much ado about nothing. overpriced and the service is not great. I take my money to jack’s deli where they treat me right!

  5. Lets clarify–this was not taken over, Corky and Lenny’s opened up in Goodmans spot after it was closed and is trying to ride on the coat tails of someone else’s reputation!!!! It was in no way a take over!!!!

  6. Kenny Kurland is a racist jerk off who I has the misfortune of working for in the past. I would not piss on the guy were he on fire let alone support any of his business’s. The food is crap, overpriced and the hygienic standards of the store is atrocious. Send out the department of health and ask them to check his fridge temps, and general cleanliness of the store and they should shut him down. They guy is so cheap, he does not throw anything away, rotten food, turn it into knish. If you want corned beef that is worth the price go to sliman’s or jacks. If you want it from the source go to vienna’s
