It turns out that the same trends on display at your local cineplex — that there are no original ideas, that trilogies reign, that companies will mine nostalgia and reboot franchises when presented with the option — is also true of local comedic video stylings.

Following last night’s MLB home run derby at Progressive Field, new WKYC anchor Mike Polk Jr. unveiled the third installment of the Hastily Made Cleveland Video series. Someone obviously asked for this, we’re guessing, and given the national spotlight of the midsummer classic’s arrival on the shores of Lake Erie and deep pockets of ESPN, we can’t imagine Mr. Polk thought about turning them down.

So, here it is, ten years after the original debuted, featuring predictable zingers about breweries, river fires, the Browns and such. Oh how we’ve grown.

  1. Soooo bad . Its always good to do your homework Detroit may have more going on than we do.

  2. This guy is not funny. Who pays him for his bad takes. He’s an embarrassment to the city. He represents the worst part of the city himself. Cleveland has a lot going on for it, even against some larger cities. I’m not a fan of Detroit, but no need to take shits at them. Mike Polk isn’t even funny.

  3. I’ve seen Mike Polk…and I agree, he’s not funny. He’s a self-promoting douchebag who takes cheap shots at too many things. Channel 3 must be having ratings issues to be that desperate. if they pair him with that gasbag Jim Donovan, their viewers will desrt them and their 7 PM ratings will go into the toilet. People want news when they get home from working all day, not some lame-assed comedy routine.

I saw him at the Lakewood Public Library…he helped out his friend Seph…as in JoSEPH…Lawless…a stupid pen name…promote his book about “ruin porn”…wrecked and decaying structures in Cleveland and Detroit. Both of them tried too hard to be clever and funny, but Mike Polk really stunk up the joint. Why would anyone ever want to pay for a ticket to see him perform his stupid shtick??

And if he’s on the radio, best thing to do is change the station. He also tried print media…what a flop.

Now he’s on TV…wonder how long that will last? Hopefully, not long. You stink, Mike!

  4. He’s right….Cleveland is still not Detroit. Wish we were Detroit as that place is actually cool and I’ve been there a few times lately and that city is freakin nice. The old cliche about that town is way over from what I saw. These things Mike does just remind me that we as a city try way too hard to be cool. We have got to stop with this Napoleon Complex with Pittsburgh, Detroit, etc. We look weak. Can’t we just be proud and not make stupid shorts like this that make us look desperate to prove we’re a cool city??
