She wasn’t able to travel to Cleveland to get her fix, so her friend Sam Klein, also a Cleveland Heights native, sent a request to the restaurant to see if there was anything they could do.
“This was my first request like this. I wasn’t even sure if we’d be able to do it,” restaurant owner Tommy Fello told Fox 8 Cleveland.
Fello assured Klein he would find a way to make it happen. Using donated dry ice from Pierre’s Ice Cream and paying $123 for overnight shipping, Fello put together a package for Pomeranz that was sure to keep the milkshake in good shape for her when it arrived.
Klein snapped a photo of Pomeranz holding the milkshake and shared a short story on Facebook, which now boasts more than 1,000 shares, about how the whole thing came together.
Pomeranz passed away last Friday, but her story continues to live on.
“Seeing her in that picture was just something else, I’ll tell ya. What a reward,” Fello told Fox 8 Cleveland. “I was so happy it worked. I wasn’t sure how it was going to work, and Sam called me and said it worked. We called it the ‘Milkshake Mission’ or something like that, ‘Mission: Impossible.’”
