Remember those phony British accents you and your friend tried out at the mall one day when you were in high school? That was a lot of fun, wasn’t it? Apparently for Josh Mandel, the Republican running for Sherrod Brown’s U.S. Senate seat, it still is.
At a campaign event Tuesday with presidential candidate Mitt Romney in Beallsville, Ohio, in the heart of Appalachian coal country, Mandel kicked off his brief speech in front of a photo-op backdrop of coal miners by speaking in a heavy backwoods accent. He rapidly dropped it, as if he either had second thoughts about this tactic or realized he couldn’t carry it off. Mandel, of course, is from the Cleveland area.
Said Huffington Post,
The Cincinnati Enquirer said Mandel had not spoken in a southern accent before. Mandel hails from Lyndhurst, a Cleveland suburb near Lake Erie, far from the Appalachian part of the state.
Actually, although he served on the Lyndhurst city council, he grew up in Beachwood and currently lives there again. And that IS several miles south of Lyndhurst.
Luckily there’s video. You can decide for yourself how convincing he is as an Appalachian coal miner — or whatever he was tyring to be.

Luckily there was video so we could see you were making shit up. He sounds like he usually does.
Nice one Josh…Clearly dropped it mid –Appreciate–Good catch Scene!
Would have been so much cooler if he busted out a fake British accent.
Josh? Mandel? Beachwood? Oy, who’da thunk it? Betcha he can do a killer “old Jewish guy” accent…it’ll go over BIG when this meshuganer farshtunkener shtick dreck plays Menorah Park and the other senior complexes and nursing homes.
Gay kocken offen yom, boychick!
Chuckles the Clown
I strongly support Sherrod Brown, but Josh didn’t sound like a good-old-boy from Southern Ohio and his speech was pretty well done…I thought. I think he made Mitt Romney look better than Paul Ryan makes him look. Making Mitt Romney look good is hard, hard work, and as much as I hate to admit it Josh looked and sounded about as good as I have heard him sound and look. I was really looking forward to attacking him and Mitt, but did not come out that way…Oh well..plenty of time until November.
It will be The Norquist Pledge that hurts Josh, Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan and the entire republican party more than any other single thing. I have been urging all republicans to distance themselves from Grover Norquist for years now. You think Rev. Wright was bad for President Obama. Wait until you see how voters in both parties react when they find out Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan both signed the Norquist Pledge.
Josh Mandel, the name says it all! Fake, flake, liar, opportunist, hack, corrupt. The guy is just plain creepy & scary
