One of the most recognized vehicles in rock ’n’ roll, ZZ Top’s Eliminator car will roll back into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum on Monday at around 9 a.m. As the story goes, ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons originally approached Buffalo Motor Cars and Southern California’s So-Cal Speed Shop in 1976 about outfitting a 1933 all-steel Ford three-window Coupe with a Corvette engine. The rest is rock history.
The car appeared on the cover of ZZ Top’s 1983 album, Eliminator, and it became a symbol for the subsequent world tour. It also appeared in three ZZ Top videos, including their “Gimme All Your Lovin’.” The car made a comeback appearance in the video for the song “Rough Boy,” a tune from ZZ Top’s 1985 album, Afterburner.
