Remember the swampy August of 2015, when 'Heritage not Hate' refrains were common, and imperiled NOT-racists were hosting Confederate Flag Pride Parades to broadcast their support for... southern heritage?

It's 2017 now, but love for the Confederate Flag in Ohio — a Union state — is still super strong. Although not without controversy.

The Chronicle-Telegram reports that the sale of the flag will be permitted this year at the Lorain County Fair. The county's fair board sanctioned the sale of the items, once again, in apparent defiance of the fair's bylaws which rule that:

“Under no circumstance will items of a questionable nature be sold or permitted on fairgrounds or in the building.”

At a recent meeting of the county commissioners, via the CT, a local activist said that the Confederate Flag was more than just "questionable."

“For people who believe it’s just a piece of cloth or a piece of history," the woman said, "in today’s world, it’s the No. 1 recruitment tool for neo-Nazi groups.”

The County Fair in Lorain doesn't get underway until Aug. 21 so expected heated debate in the coming weeks and months. Thousands are expected to protest by not showing up.

While you wait for that volcano to erupt, feel free to enjoy this humdinger from 2015 about Confederate Flag support in Willoughby.
