Detroit Shoreway and its commercial heart, Gordon Square, were featured in the New York Times Wednesday. The article was a standard progress report on a hip arts-and-entertainment district that mentioned a number of the area businesses by name. (Meaningless "must-visit city" pap this was not.)

Readers of Elaine Glusac's piece in the Travel section, "A Cleveland Neighborhood Hustles and Rebounds," will learn of the district's three theaters, (key to the "arts district" identity): The Capitol Theatre, Cleveland Public Theatre, and Near West Theatre. All three of these Gordon Square venues, incidentally, style their names with the "-re" spelling of "theatre." The New York Times, however, in error or in deference to its internal style guide, spelled them all "theater."

The growth in the area has been "explosive," according to Spice Kitchen + Bar's Ben Bebenroth — 2017, in particular, has been "epic." To prove it, the piece casts its gaze briefly on iLTHY, Fount, Banter, Superelectric Pinball Parlor, and the Happy Dog; and even mentions new arrivals like Brewnuts and Astoria Cafe & Market. (No mention of Boiler 65 though! (God, remember Trattner's experience there?))

Glusac even dutifully reports, in a section on "Cleveland Hustles," that the cocktail parlor Old City Libations has closed up shop to return to its original business model.

All in all, 'twas a nice piece of recognition, which should be gratifying for the folks at Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization who have helped facilitate the influx of new businesses.
