A fire ripped through the Rainbow Terrace Apartments in the wee hours of Monday morning, displacing 30 families living in the Kinsman neighborhood complex. Now a GoFundMe campaign has been launched by Lifelong Learning, which runs programs at the apartment's Rainbow Terrace Learning Center, to help the adults and children who've lost everything in the blaze.

Bridgette Smith, director of Rainbow Terrace programs, and her team met with most of the families to assess the damage to possessions. From there they decided on a fundraising amount of $5,000 per family, for a total of $150,000.

"We know this won't cover everything, but it's a start," Smith tells Scene. "This is not something you can prepare yourself for."

The fundraiser is set to run for 30 days. Smith says that if the campaign exceeds expectations, the extra funds will go towards a youth scholarship program.

The fire was reportedly started by a grease spill in an apartment. It's unclear at this time when every family can return to their homes. The Red Cross is currently providing temporary housing for the families.

The Boys & Girls Club of Cleveland is also working to help the displaced families. Find out more about their fundraiser effort right here.
