WKYC General Manager Micki Byrnes announced via staff memo Friday that Tom Meyer, the Investigator himself, is retiring after 46 years in local TV news, forty of which have been in Cleveland. His last day with the station will be Sunday, June 30.

Meyer won't be doffing his reporter's fedora completely, though. Per Byrnes' memo, Meyer plans to start a "part-time adventure in multiple endeavors," including a podcast that he's reportedly toying with calling "Meyer Time."

"Over the years he's met a lot of interesting people and heard stories that should make terrific content," Byrnes wrote. "While he won't be exclusive to WKYC, once he gets his podcast company up and running, we look forward to continuing to take advantage of his talents."

Meyer arrived in Cleveland in 1979 to start the I-Team at Fox 8. After years there and more than a decade at Channel 19 — where he was "more fair, more honest and more everywhere" than anyone in town — he was hired at WKYC in 2007 to "break major stories."

Among his distinctions, Meyer has accrued a total of 69 regional Emmy awards — NICE — and was inducted into the Cleveland Press Club's Journalism Hall of Fame in 2008.
