Maxwell is no more at 98.5.

Benjamin “Maxwell” Bornstein, who left WMMS in November 2009 under strained relations and a contract impasse, and who joined WNCX in November 2010 in a curious move considering his recent history on Cleveland airwaves and the station’s audience’s preferences, was not on the air this morning in his usual morning-drive timeslot. His 98.5 tenure, for those of you who are good at math, was less than a year.

Ohio Media Watch first reported the news last night. Today, they wrote:

Vince Grzegorek has been with Scene since 2007 and editor-in-chief since 2012. He previously worked at Discount Drug Mart and Texas Roadhouse.

  1. Yikes. Did this have anything to do with the tapes recovered by a Rover’s Morning Glory listener? Or just a coincidence?

  2. I can’t stand rover. His voice is annoying, his co-hosts are annoying. However, I always used to listen to maxwell on drives home when he was on wmms. very sad he’s been canned again 🙁

  3. Listening to the Maxwell Show was just like a holiday get together at my in-laws house, nothing but bitching.

  4. All he does is wine and complain. I can see why they got rid of him. That stansberry though had some talent. I would usualy listen to them when Douchey would start to annoy me. I dont know how she stays on Rovers show. I guess Rover wants to get you to hate her andtune in to hate her more. That doesnt work on me.

  5. I found myself listening to some classic rock on 98.5 this very morning. Between this fantastic news and an alternative to am850, it’s a whole new landscape for my listening pleasure.

  6. I think it’s bizarre how the Maxwell show dropped off without so much as a warning nor explanation. I sense fowl play! I was really very happy to hear him, Chunk and Stansbury back on the radio (on WNCX) after things went sour at WMMS. It’s a realy bummer, because I’ve always preferred Maxwell and his crew to RMG. I wonder, along with “annaez”, if Rover’s alleged tapes have something to do with this. Overall, I’ve found Maxwell to be much more tastefull and entertaining than RMG. Oh well, I suppose the good guys don’t always win. Maxwell, if you happen to read this, I hope you pop up somewhere else on the air in Cleveland. If you do, I will be listening buddy!

  7. Oh I think there was quite a bit of warning. He went from Music free to playing quite a bit of music plus his daily whining about being taken off they air seems to have been true this time. Never could stand him but I think Stansberry and Chunk could have a future if they drop him.

  8. ever since howard stern left cbs for sirius i 2006, 98.5 has struggled mightly in the morning drive ratings. I personally like the maxwell show. I was an avid listener on wmms when he was there. When he was let go i stopped listening to wmms entirely. I have been a loyal listener to 98.5 since its inception in 1986. I believe I will stop listening to them as well. They never gave the guy a real chance to get the ratings up. All mornings shows of that kind are basically howard stern clones. If they put of with stern for 14 years then they could have given maxwell at least a full year to turn things around.

  9. Loved the Maxwell show in the morning I would leave early for work just so I could listen to it! I will not be listening to 98.5 anymore! Hope you guys get on another Cleveland station so I can listen to you again. Love you Maxwell, Stansberry, and Chunk!

  10. Next to Howard Stern on satellite, the only listenable Cleveland morning show is Lanigan and Malone. No annoying voices, no arguing, bitching and complaining, and no immature stupidity. I hope Rover goes next !

  11. I’m glad the music is back! Didn’t really care for Maxwell’s moaning, but Stansberry and Chunk were okay. Like the music better though.

  12. HUGE LOL – (late but pertinent nonetheless) After ousting my friend’s show and initiating this one with an effing annoying 1.5 hours of Maxwell’s Hammer (sorry, Beatles, I still like the song but this station had it wrong to play that over and over and over so it made me never listen to it)….just another reason to NOT listen to ‘radio’….

  13. I’m sorry to see that the Maxwell show is no longer on 98.5 in the morning, it was the best thing for morning drive time. Such a shame as it wasn’t anywhere near as flamboyant as the Howard Stern Show, but there seemed to be too many reins on the cast and show under Bill Louis’ watch. This was a good show, good thing my SIRIUS radio is being replaced so I can go back to some real radio stations, not those run by advertisers!!

  14. I am glad that the Cleveland airwaves are rid of Maxwell… his long pauses would make me believe that the station went off the air and I would change the station. I am so sick and tired of morning drive talk. Let music rule the airwaves once again!

  15. I am glad that Cleveland’s airwaves are rid of Maxwell… his pausing always would make me want to change channels immediately. His constant droning and whining was annoying as well. Let the airwaves be free of cheap talk and flow with music again!

  16. sorry, Chicago. you can have him and his irritating b.s. Why does radio think we want to listen to a-holes blah blah blah? play the damn music.

  17. I miss u so muchTiffany, aka Chunk. And stansberry, Awesome. But my n&##@ Maxwell can get it! Ur the best. I followed u from station to station. Now tht I kno ur on in the Chi, I’m goin to fig out how to get u back n my sarcastic life. I neeed u guys! Best of luck and kiss the baby for me. Muah!!
