It wasn’t long before the Twitter rumors were confirmed by a source to Scene this morning.

Chuck Booms, who did his show on 92.3 The Fan this morning, was indeed fired by the station.

That’s all we got for now. When we hear more, we’ll update here. We reached out to Booms and 92.3 management but haven’t received a response yet.

Know anything? Get in touch. vgrzegorek@clevescene.com

Update: Program director Andy Roth confirmed and had this to say: “I can confirm we parted ways with Chuck. We wish him well and we’ll announce his replacement in the near future.”

Update II: Here’s what Chuck Booms had to say in a short conversation: “I’m shocked, and I’m sad, extremely sad. And most of all I’m sad for the fans of the show, because when you’re a standup, the reason you get into it is because of the people that go and enjoy what you do. To have this happen, it’s rough. I’m grateful for, basically, the four years we had, but this came way out of left field. But I’m an optimist. Onward and upward.”

  1. Good riddance. Perhaps they will find someone with more factual substance and less loud-mouth opinions.

  2. I’m excited to see he is gone because we deserved a better morning show in Cleveland and they need to get rid Kiley too.

  3. Add Ken Carmen in the morning and I will “tolerate” Kiley, or at least listen again. Kiley and Booms together was just unlistenable.

  4. I’ll call him and offer support just like he called me to offer support. Welcome to the club, Chuck. It’s a bitch!

  5. On Manziel’s jock so hard. No substance to his “reporting,” just a bombastic fan with trivia
in his head. But isn’t that all of them? That voice, too, like nails on a chalkboard. He’ll surface
somewhere in this (other than LBJ and “celeb chefs”) starless town, most likely on his lame
“comedy” tours. You’re not Polk, Jr., hack, and neither is Alan Cox, Zumock or any other so-called
personalities in this city. Deuces, trick!

  6. What I meant was great move in a sarcastic way!!! He was one of the funniest most intelligent radio hosts I can remember. Those of you that are bashing him are probably the sane idiots that are in denial that art model did a lot for this city and the NFL. YOU PEOPLE pushed him out!!!

  7. Oh, yeah, hit up Paradise Island in Euclid. You’ll probably run into him weeping in his drink.

  8. I actually thought he…and that morning show…was entertaining. Bear in mind, that doesn’t mean that I thought it was INFORMATIVE, but in a morning show, I want a small dose of information within a gallon jug of entertainment. From that perspective, I thought that show was good. I mean, he was nuts for Manziel, but I want to hear a nut in the morning. Howard Stern’s shows were off-the-wall insanity in the morning. That’s what I saw (in some small part) in the 92.3 morning show.

  9. I sure hope WOIO Channel 19 follows suit and gets him off TailGate 19 so I can watch that show again!! And now I don’t have to wait ’till 10:00 to tune in 92.3!!

  10. Now if he just admits he was wrong about Johnny Manziel maybe another station can pick him up.

  11. Finally. I liked Booms at first but his inability to let ANYONE who disagreed with him speak without “hawking” them and dumping the call genuinely turned me off to this show. Kiley is OK but lacks the charisma to carry this show. Wish Booms the best of luck! And for those suggesting Ken Carman move over, remember some of the best parts of his show (Tall Boy Friday) are not show segments that would play well during the AM Drive-time commute. Someone should call Mike Polk Jr and see what he thinks about hosting…

  12. I totally agree with Joe from Stow….the hawking was over the top. It is a talk show. Not “take my ball and go home show” when he disagreed with a caller. I loved the show for awhile then changed stations about 6 months ago. Good luck to him, but better luck to us listeners if the show improves now…hope Kiely is listening to these comments.

  13. “…For the people that go and enjoy what you do”. If few people enjoy what you do, that’s when you get fired. Good luck going back to standup but please stay off the airwaves!

  14. Kiley will improve tremendously without Booms, he does have genuine sports knowledge. Hopefully they trash those stupid games too, “Ahead or Behind” being the worst! Made no sense and was a waste of air time.

  15. I know a guy, who knew a guy, who talked to a guy, who had a drink with this guy (Booms), and he is in fact A RACIST S.O.B. C-YA BOOMS, Good luck finding a job that will let you be loud and ignorant all at once.

  16. The program got off to a real fast start – as solid as when the duo had a national gig – but it has been sputtering on fumes for many months; especially as the show’s producer expanded his on-air “Morning Zoo” role, seemingly to help promote his lousy weekend program. And if this dismissal is directly aimed at slicing salaries, Kevin Kiley could be next.

  17. Thank goodness, I could not stand listening to him rant. Half the time he made no sense and brought the show down. I like all the other time slots but would change the station every morning because of him.

  18. I can start listening to 92.3 in the morning, again. When he made light of domestic violence in the NFL, that was the last straw for me.

  19. I am glad to see that I am not the only one that immediately turned the station when the stupid game show “Ahead or Behind” came on.

  20. WHAT THE HELL I LIKED BOOMS I LISTEN EVERY MORNING TAKING MY KIDS TO SCHOOL NOT SURE IF I WILL LISTEN NOW

  21. Booms…next Phelps and Bull must go! Bull is just like Booms he has no sports background never played a sport but thinks he has more knowledge then anyone else that has a different opinion than his. He’s that guy we all know that plays Madden football on the Xbox and thinks that makes him a expert on football. Phelps is just a turd.

  22. Rizzo show is the best!! Kiley and booms are both hacks!! They suck!! Baskin and Phelps is like watching paint dry!! Bull and Fox are the best on this station and Carmen! I hooenkiley goes next!! He’s not even from Cleveland!! Why the hell would you have a host who isn’t from here?? So he can bash our sports and talk about the fucking Yankees??? Fedor blows cock also!! I dunno how 92.3 competes in the market other than bull and fox!

  23. Why did Chuck Booms get Fired? Why? Because CBS cares FINALLY…

So glad that they got rid of that racist P.O.S. How can you have a radio show and not let the callers get a word in? If it wasnt his way it was the highway, Or the Hawk

  24. Those of you who really know chuck…know he is very entertaining. I’ve known chuck for 30 plus years …and if…upper management tried to tell him what to say and what not to say…the chuck I know would have said f#$× that. It’s a loss for Cleveland and a gain for the city or station that gets him … .good luck my friend land on your feet …and never let them shut you up!!!!!

  25. Please God, let Rover and his band of extra chromosome toilet monkeys be next.

  26. I’m sure that personally, he’s a nice guy, but I pretty much stopped listening to the show because I couldn’t stand Booms. I literally felt sorry for Kiley having to deal with that day in and day out. Then again I prefer intelligent analysis over obnoxious, opinionated, blowhards. I think Ken Carman would be a good replacement. I’ve enjoyed when he’s filled in for Booms in the past.

  27. Booms was such an idiot. At least now I’ll be able to listen to the morning show again!

  28. Les Levine is the only host worth a darn. And he’s a part time fill in guy.

  29. Fire Kiley and pair Ken Carmen with Chris Fedor. They have great on-air rapport, with the textbook yin/yang any PD would look for in a duo.

  30. You people that like the fact Booms got canned are idiots! He is a Cleveland guy…yeah he’s a homer but what do u expect. Kiley could give a shit less about Cleveland or our sports teams, he’s only following a paycheck. Chuck is a comedian, the Hawks are funny…we haven’t had funny in the morning since Stern was on free radio…it’s an entertainment show for Christ sake, not Sunday Mass.

  31. Adios Booms! Now who is the idiot? Ran your mouth so hard you finally talked your way out of your gig. By the way, you are also a pizz poor stand up comedian. I just hope they don’t move that blowhard Ken Carman to morning talk. That guys loves the sound of his voice more than anything in this world.

  32. FINALLY!!! now i can listen to sports radio in the morning, on way to work and at work. he ruined the show. way to go 92.3

  33. Now take the next step, make Tony Zarella and the rest of the Tailgate 19 cast happy and fire Booms from that show as well. I’ve seen Tony give Booms a ” you are such an @#$hole” look on many occasions. No one who had to work with Booms the Jerk will miss him when he is gone.

  34. Bull and Fox can go to. Only good shows are Baskin and Phelps and Carman. I like when Fillar or Spoons get on over the weekends too. Lima and Fedor stink also. Need to give the entertaining people better time slots.

  35. Everyone realizes that both of those guys play a character right? Blame Andy Roth the PD if you don’t like the show. Kiley is next out, but not because he’s getting pushed, but because he told them he was ready to go home to Virginia.

  36. If you’ve ever hung out with Chuck away from the pressure of public, Jes a great guy that sincerely loves to entertain.

Maybe sports talk wasn’t the best career option for him, but if you remember his days of “Jammin 92.3” with Scott Free, he was better than Elvis D’s crew combined. He was witty, fresh and inviting to all that called. No demand for controversy like there is today.

I hope to see him come up again. He really does deserve it.

    Tk

  37. Don’t count out Ken that his bits won’t play in morning drive. Kens a talented dude, he’ll adapt and more than likely thrive Of that’s where he ends up. Sorry to hear about Booms though. Always hate to see someone get canned.

  38. I had no problem with him. I always prefer homegrown hosts anyway. Ken Carmen and booms would of been great team. If you suffer from insomnia I suggest listening to baskin and phelps.. They should put Kiley on with them at 10 and call it stooges marathon.

  39. I don’t like when people get fired, but he was an embarrassment to Cleveland and so is Kiley.I remember one time, Chad Ford had to tell him to shut up,so he can talk. Hopefully he finds a job somewhere, but not on our airwaves. It sucked not being able to listen to sports radio, when him and Kiley was on.

  40. Chuck Booms is a large piece of fecal matter. He can’t admit he’s wrong about anything, which is why he’s practically dating his dog, instead of a woman. He’s a self absorbed crybaby that wants to have sexual intercourse with Johnny Manziel.

  41. Just wondering if Kiley will inherit Chuck’s Giant Eagle contacts! We should all pitch in and buy Kevin a bus ticket back to NY.

  42. Voice of One Fan: 1) I’ll miss the entertaining and thought-provoking ball-busting debates between Booms and Kiley 2) I’ll miss some of the more funny parts of the show 3) I will not miss ahead-or-behind. Very annoying. And definitely a time-suck for a prime time in the show. 4) Commercial breaks seemed to significantly increase in frequency in the last two years – that’s business though.

Based on the comments above, I feel like I was living in a cave . . . I didn’t realize there was all this hate for Booms. Yeah, he could be a jackass and his and Kiley’s quick Hawks were frustrating (so why would people keep calling in?), but he’s an opinionated comedian entertainer and that’s what I enjoyed hearing first thing in the morning. Assuming station management got fed up with his opinionated comedian mouth and this was the only way to dress Booms down. That, or some of the more powerful sports figures/management/owners in town made a few calls to 92.3 about him.

  43. Chuck and Chuck ….How about Booms and Galeti…I could at least tolerate Galeti..Booms getting fired is like getting a bad tooth pulled. Good riddance is right !

  44. Kiley and Carmen would be awesome. With Spooner interjecting here and there it would be a great morning show however I see Kiley voluntarily leaving.

  45. Come on guys…. yes Chuck would Hawk people too soon, but do you want to hear the same show throughout the entire day??? Kiley & Booms is part of a good, DIVERSE program from early morning til 11:00 at night….. no one wants to hear the same stuff and same personalities all day long !!! And I thought Kevin and Chuck were two very different personalities that were a pretty fun fit. I also think Kevin does a good job and brings knowledge to the show so they SHOULD keep him !!!

    Best of luck Chuck !!!!

  46. Hard to feel sorry for a guy who found it necessary to get a cheap laugh over something like Dick Clark’s stroke. The countdown to New Year’s Eve shtick. Bad Karma has a way of following you Amigo.

  47. Sometimes executives allow just one small segment of a hosts audience to push them into their inclined position to terminate a host. Classic case in point. You could tell even a fellow liberal like the CBS executives was a little more enlightened on what’s best for 92.3’s Kiley & Booms show. Kevin Kiley realizes he’s not the straw that stirs the drink, he’s not Frank Sinatra, he’s not Lou Costello, he is the sidekick to Booms. The tolerated liberal on the show, this termination shows the hidden dream of CBS and many other network’s to manipulate the sports talk listening white males for the most part and turn them into whiny wine drinking liberals who pass the litmus test of tolerated white males. Nice try but Kiley hinted this morning 5/8/2015 that even though he feels greatful that management has confidence in him and maybe he can get another host to fill Booms shoe just what is the team. Its not Martin & Lewis, or The Lone Ranger & Tonto. It’s Tonto & Tonto and no listen wants to hear that show. Thus the shows remaining listeners will be huppie liberals catching 15-25 minutes a morning in between their morning bagel and 5 dollar cup of Starbucks coffee. So what will happen just as Kiley hinted at this morning some station up or down the dial either FM or AM will snatch them up in a heartbeat, you can see it now WKNR or WTAM, they are a golden goose in sports talk. WTAM has never been happy with the shortened Glenn Beck and 1 hour the spew, what you’ll see is the spew moved up an hour and Kiley & Booms 9-12. I hope a political statement was worth it liberals at CBS you started your dream of sports talk in Cleveland and effectively just killed it.

  48. More comical than anything are those bashing his stance on “Womanzeil”, sure I thought the guy was a college only QB who was going to have problems tossing the ball over huge defensive lines, partied way too much and would find defenses will beat him to the corner, all of which came true. But what Clevelander didn’t think like Chuck when “Womanzeil” was picked ummm errr almost all of you including many on this blog, be honest. How many of you thought Kluber would be 0-6 this year thus far, ummm errr all of you thought he was the second coming of Walter Johnson. Oh I’m sorry liberal sports fans none of you know history well Johnson had over 400 victories in the early 1900’s and owned the K record for decades. I always have to remember only revisionist history is taught in schools these days. Booms wasn’t just part of the show he was the Show. His cartoon character mocking of Shermur was classic and TRUE. His hawking was epic. Really liberals how many shows do you need lead by liberal hosts in sports they have an entire network dedicated to promoting gay rights and trying to get us accustomed to QB’s in dresses, and catchers wearing blue bonnets yet somehow maintain their man cards.

  49. He called Lebron coming back
    He called Manziel getting drafted
Did I like everything he did – of course not – BUT THAT IS WHAT SPORTS RADIO IS ABOUT

Sorry to see you go Chuck – made 92.3 a favorite button on my car radio because of your morning show

  51. This ass clown is a stand up comedian? If he plans on falling back on that career path, he’s screwed.

  52. This is really a sign that Karma exists. Booms ranted about Britt McHenry getting fired for talking the way she did to the tow lady, but that was what he did everyday. It was easy to tell that he was a racist and I am shocked that he lasted that long. For all of the people that he called to get fired, I expect there are a number of smiles. I never heard of the guy but he said he was the top comedian for a period of time. Never seemed to make me laugh……….although I am now!

  53. Could the reason Booms got fired related to why he got fired from fox in St. Louis? A quote from someone he worked with in St. Louis: “I like Chuck personally. But from what I hear, he is claiming the company shafted him and while those sentiments are understandable, he wasn’t exactly a good team guy. Apparently he became a daily problem for management with constant complaining and threats of calling in sick when he didn’t have his way. They don’t want to deal with that kind of nonsense around here.” Could this be why he was “sick” so much. What a cry baby!

  54. By the way, it also looks like he was suspended for a day in February this year. So apparently this is not a spur of the moment thing but Booms thinking he is above all others and doesn’t have to follow the program.

  55. I’m sure he’s a great guy, but hard to take on the radio. I stopped watching Tailgate 19 because he constantly interrupts the other host of the show. I want to hear what the ex-NFL players have to say about the Browns. Not a stand-up comedian who never played the game.

  56. It’s a miracle. My morning drives will be improved without that jackass yelling into the mic. Have a different opinion than his? Prepare to get insulted and hawked… unless your Kiley in which you had to sit there and suffer without being able to explain yourself. I don’t care if he was a comedian or that he’s from Cleveland, the guy was a prick. Good riddance.

Side Note: I don’t want Ken Carman in the morning full time. I like the spot he’s in at night, much more loose. Ken Carman is the best guy on the network, but putting him in the morning without The Kid just isn’t a good idea. He has the best sign off out of all of them with his earnest thanking of every one of his listeners, it’s a great way to end every night.

  57. Booms is a guy who used to get his ass kicked in high school and never knew why. He’s obnoxious, loud, overbearing and childish. I am thrulled to never hear his whining again.

  58. Where the BSK. Or Kenny I enjoyed them that would be a good add. For Booms he didn’t bother me he did make me mad sometimes. Yet he also made me laugh so he did his job. This is still a man job and I feel bad no matter what. I hope he bounce back

  59. Most would agree that Booms was a horrible host. No factual substance… No formal sports background… Arrogant & ignorant to boot!!! Firing him was definitely a step in the right direction!!! #hisvoicewasworsethanchalkonchalkboards

  60. Absolutely great news! Now I can listen to early morning sports radio before 10 am again!! He was just unbearable. Of course, you disagree with a host sometimes, but when they’re quality talent, ya listen just to see what they’re going to say. With Booms, he LITERALLY pushed listeners away. I’ve had at least 30 random people celebrate this to me. Good move KNR.

  61. Absolutely great news! Now I can listen to early morning sports radio before 10 am again!! He was just unbearable. 62. I’d fire Andy baskin, he’s worthless. Pair Les Levine with Jeff Phelps. They’re great together. Put them on, first thing in the morning.

  63. I did like the fact that he was local and he understood Cleveland fans. The downside on him was that he wasn’t knowledgeable about sports, especially football, but thought he was. I don’t expect anyone to know everything, especially a guy who wasn’t a former player or coach, but he would scream and argue when he was wrong. It made him difficult to listen to and I often changed the channel. They probably fired him over complaints like that.

  64. If he didn’t cut people off so much and feel it necessary to transfer his Napoleon complex to his mouth then he would have been serviceable.

I warned that fool before and that Cleveland fan would strike him down for constant jock riding of Manziel (ESPECIALLY FOLLOWING A BROWN’S VICTORY) Guess he’s smarter than everyone else. I see lots of Golden Girls reruns in his future.

  65. Just found out Booms was canned. Now I’ll try out the show again. Kiley is fine, now it’s time to get rid of pathetic attempts at entertainment like Ahead or Behind. Good Lord does that segment suck! Next would be expanding the sound clip library. The use of these clips repetitively reminds one of radio in northern Maine; Cleveland radio should not sound like that.
