Scott Smith, the North Ridgeville man who brought a bag of weapons to Crocker Park’s Regal Cinema last summer, was sentenced to prison today.

He explained to Judge Kathleen Sutula that his plan for “personal protection” had been a “poor decision.” His solo trip to The Dark Knight Rises came just a few weeks after James Holmes killed 12 people and injured 58 others in a mass shooting at an Aurora, Colo., movie theater – during a screening of The Dark Knight Rises.

Smith was sentenced to six months on a felony charge of carrying a concealed weapon and six months a misdemeanor charge.

And that bag of weapons he carried into the theater Aug. 4 last year? Just for reference, it contained a Glock 9mm semi-automatic pistol, four knives and various medical supplies.

All of a sudden, “personal protection,” as Smith claimed as his motive, doesn’t seem like the worst idea in the world.

  2. Get your permits if you want to carry and know where and where not you can go. It’s called being responsible.

  3. Granted he MIGHT have been planning the “good samaritan” role but get the freaken cc first….
