A new twist has been added to Grafton Mayor Megan Flanigan’s OVI arrest from September.

The Lorain County Sherriff’s Department said they found and identified a pill in her possession that’s used to treat heroin overdoses.

Flanigan, who’s probs been kickin’ it with Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, now has a drug possession charge tacked on to her OVI.

She’s already pled not guilty to drunken driving, and will make a court appearance next week. -AM

Megan Flanigan, the mayor of Grafton Village, was arrested early Saturday morning under the suspicion of OVI.

While Flanigan is hardly the first politician to have an alcohol-related run-in with the law, her absurd behavior denotes her a special place in the category.

Here’s how the incident went down:

At about 3 a.m., a Grafton police officer found a stray license plate registered to Flanigan near a damaged fire hydrant on Fox Run Drive- note this is Flanigan’s own neighborhood (!).

After initially fleeing the scene of the accident, Flanigan decided to be a responsible citizen and returned in her clearly damaged white SUV.

Police noticed that she smelled strongly of alcohol, and after allegedly denying that she’d been slinging back brewskies all night, she went on to promptly fail multiple field sobriety tests.

She then apparently blamed her impaired balance on- wait for it- a sprained ankle.

Flanigan was taken to the Lorain County Jail for a breathalyzer test, the results of which have not been released. The Elyria Municipal Court will be handling the Mayor’s case, which includes citations for OVI, reasonable control, and failure to stop after an accident.

While this may have been Flanigan’s most exiting run in with the law, it certainly wasn’t her first. The Mayor seems to have trouble controlling her vehicle even when sober, considering she has racked up previous violations including a 2003 speeding conviction, a failure to yield in 2006, and a failure to control in 2008.

  1. It’s wonderful to see such sensationalized obviously bias reporting from and intern blogger popping up on my face book feed. It’s like I don’t even have to turn on FOX to see insignificant facts blown out of proportion by a hack looking to make herself a name, particularly when her “article” is a poorly paraphrased version of an equally biased piece of fluff.

At what point is four tickets in a decade worthy of note when evaluating a person’s character? I very much enjoyed the casual mention that she’s been an good mayor contrasted with her being lambasted for a mistake many people have made.

It has been pointed out that she is a public figure and should set a better example for the populace. Have you looked at the behavior of our government recently?

Is it not also your responsibility as a news source to give us unbiased and useful information?

Answer those questions and go look in the mirror.

  2. “many people” have left the scene of an accident?? And I don’t know about you, but there is certainly no failure to controls on my driving record. That’s another dui. And the failure to yield is fleeing. I don’t know how you can say this demonstrates good character.

  3. Is Megan Flanigan an Irish storyteller? What was she doing out at 3AM….Tupperware party?

  4. “I am without a doubt extremely embarrassed, and I’m deeply sorry,” said Flanigan.

So wait, why is she apologizing if she did nothing wrong? Why isn’t she saying, “I wasn’t drunk at all, I just had a sprained ankle and my license plate got stolen after the thieves smashed the front end of my car and threw alcohol scent on me, and then I drove out looking for my license plate not realizing my car was leaning about 30 degrees to the right.” I mean, if she is truly innocent, why the apology? Yeah, I think we all know the answer to that one. Watch the dash cam video if you’d like, search for her name +dui and it’s a few down on google.

  5. It’s not how many times you get knocked down
that counts, it’s how many times you get back up and
in many cases with the help of family and friends.

Mayor Flanigan will get back up and be stronger
    then ever.

She has a lot going for her and a lot on her plate.
She also has a lot of supporters who believe in her!

Move on to 2014 and better times!

  6. I am a supporter of hers and have supported her through this and I do think she has done good for Grafton BUT if she has any part of Heroin I will not be able to support any more. Its killing kids families and starting to effect my business….. Heroin is a deal breaker!

  7. @Jennifer…”Failure to Yield” DOES NOT mean fleeing…It means a preference to one of two vehicles asserting the right of passage at the same place and at approximately the same time. Or simpler terms…Who goes/turns first…

Stop trying to sound so smart…stupid…

  8. Who am I to judge her? Nobody is perfect. Maybe she will admit to her mistakes & try to recover. She need prayers.

  9. This makes me smile bc I rented from this real piece of work once…what a nightmare!!!!!!!!! You reap what you sow people!!!!! Hahahahaha

  10. Dumb people are out in full force today!!!!
What the crap was she doing out at 3am….
Nothing good ever happens after Midnight….
    Just sayin’…
