Public Policy Polling asked Ohioans to give their opinion about the state’s biggest cities and Cleveland did not top the list. Hell, it wasn’t even in the top three.

Youngstown, in case you were wondering, occupied the low end of the favorability spectrum, which sounds about right to anyone that isn’t from Youngstown, and probably even a few that are.

Columbus came in on top, probably because everyone loves sprawl and strip malls and OSU frat parties and Timmy Horton’s. Or something. (CBus scored a 57-15 favorable/unfavorable split.)

Then Cincinnati, of all places: 51-17.

Then Dayton, @&#)$(@#&)!: 41-20.

Then Akron, ?????: 39-20.

Then, finally, Cleveland: 38-33.

Lordy. If you needed a downer on a Friday afternoon, Cleveland, you just got it. Your own state hates you more than Dayton.

One bit of good news:

For whatever reason, women view Cleveland (41-27) and Youngstown (24-27) much more highly than do men (36-40 and 20-41, respectively). There are much smaller gender gaps for the other cities.

Women, as we all know, are clearly smarter anyway.

  1. Well if it wasn’t for our retard elected officials and ludicrous taxation we would have fared MUCH better. Since we have to foot the bill for everything from the staduim to the effin med mart Clevelands GONNA lag in the popularity polls until we can cut taxes and get rid of crooked officials…
I love my crappy little town btw…Just not the plunkers that run it…

  2. Thats ok cuz most of America doesnt like Ohio straight out so who they hell are they to be haten on us? Like they are some prize winning pigs themselves!!!!

  3. Yeah I’ve lived just about everywhere in Ohio, and sadly I’ve got to agree. I’m living in Cleveland now, after about 2 years or so of being here, and I’m pretty darn happy to be in the process of moving away this month. Btw, this area seriously DOES need a Tim Horton’s! And a Meijer!

  4. I should add (to my previous comment in which I agreed with these findings), however, that while living here I lived/worked in a terrible area with really unpleasant people, and went to tri-c metro… so needless to say my opinion is biased in the most negative way imaginable. There are definitely better sides to Cleveland, sides I wish I had experience more of in my time here, but for whatever reason it simply wasn’t meant to be. :[ Cleveland is a big part of my family’s history, and if only for that reason alone, I will at least always be able to hold respect for it.

  5. Cleveland will change dramatically because of Casino play large role. People will be at finacing place more often, hosuing will forclosure more, see more homeless on street, murder and robbery will occur often, and there is alot more going within few years from now.

  6. @yep28, Your idea to help Cleveland is to add more chain stores? Good riddance to you.

  7. Who cares? Everyone south of 480 is Missitucky white trash anyway…they’re scared of Cleveland cuzz they’re scared of all the knee-grows…scared and stuffing their fat faces at Applebee’s and Fridays and buying big box crap for their McMansions and ticky-tacky tract houses.

Who do you think controls the Ohio Statehouse and has turned the rest of this state into a Bible-thumping laughing stock? Hint: Folks from two other Ohio cities that begon with the same letter as Cleveland.Who cares what these hill folk think of people up here?

Don’t like Cleveland? Stay in your hellholes! It’s your loss!

  8. If you don’t like Cleveland, then try living out west, in let’s say Billings, MT. At least we have cultural diversity, a bona fide art museum, all types of musical offerings, including a fabulous orchestra, and we have many different activities going on each weekend.

  9. Well I have to agree and I’ve lived here all my life.
Cleveland SUCKS! The crime rate sucks, the flats suck, the housing market sucks and the job market sucks. So what’s good? How about the summers. I stay here because I live in the suburbs and am not so affected by the City of Cleveland’s lazy cops who won’t even bother to come to the scene of an accident. You go to the police station and file a report. The crime rate is high because the Cleveland police would rather not get out of their cars until the shooting is done…. How about that for a bad rating!

  10. The summers are good because the winters are so horrible.

But they aren’t as hot and humid and stormy as some places, and despite all the endless goddam snow and the lack of sunshine, the winters aren’t as cold as other places…I mean, people actually piss and moan when it gets into the single digits or near zero.

I spent most of my life in Chicago…far hotter summers where A.C. is a MUST, more storms and more tornado warnings. Winters were far sunnier and had far less snow…but the price you paid was the COLD. Once had my brake lines freeze on a bright sunny winter day– at 27 below zero. I stopped by hitting a snowbank and ending up in someone’s front yard.

I moved here to marry a Cleveland girl…by far the smartest and best move I ever made in my life.

I also came here because there were plenty of wonderful and lucrative job opportunities here. Like Bogie, I was misinformed.

I live right where the city ends and the suburbs begin. Best of all possible worlds. Also the worst. Nicest house I ever lived in, though, far better than the one I grew up in, and like getting out of jail after years and years of apartment life.

Cleveland? It’s not so bad. At least from April through October.

  11. Columbus is ok and so are the other two big ‘Cs’. Cleveland does have far more history and diversity than Columbus. Cinci is half Kentucky which makes it southern and slow. I’ve lived and worked and visited all cities of an size in Ohio. Underwear Boy and the Wolfe Censorship industry led by the Dispatch finance way too much OSU culture which makes OSU far less than what it would be if big Columbus businessmen did not have so much influence. But even with the republican party media machine, Columbus still has plenty of good people and many fun places. Cleveland is way more real and diverse and a less plastic cultural experience. Cleveland is more exciting than most cities in the country if you have the balls to participate…well maybe the stupidity too. Cleveland has such a delightful degree of apathy and plain old give-a-fuck attitude to it that you can’t help but love her.

  12. Lazy crooked cops. Red Light and Speed cameras. Assholes that walk in the street and not on the sidewalk. Sports Palaces we paid for but cant afford to go to. Politicians that rape the Public and never go to jail or have to re-imburse what they stole from us taxpayers. A Rock Hall that has to get on its knee’s and give head in order to have a piece of shit Induction Ceremony that all Clevelands FINEST (HAH!!) Politicians went to for free. No more Euclid Beach Amusement Park, just a low rent High Rise. NOTHING Family Freindly downtown unless I want to get my 12 year old a crack whore piece of ass. Yup Cleveland is a WUNDERFUL (Mee’s went to Clevelands Pubic Skools) place !!

  13. marijuana based BBQ sauce, hmmmm I will get my 12 year old a bottle to chug before I take him downtown to gamble in the casino and get him a prostitute.

  14. I’m huge on Cleveland, but I’ll even admit that the city needs a lot of work to turn things around. I can’t say that the ratings are inaccurate, what with all the corruption BS and stupid decisions and such.

  15. CLEVELAND SUCKS THEY TOOK ALL THE ATTRACTIONS AWAY THAT WERE SO VITAL DURING THE 50S 60S 70S 80S FROM MALLS TO UNDERGROUND TRAIN STATIONS LIKE NEW YORK AND THEN PUT A STUPID CASINO THAT WE DONT NEED HERE. I FOR ONE PERSONALLY HATE LIVING IN CLEVELAND.
