Paradise Biryani Pointe Credit: Douglas Trattner

Since opening Paradise Biryani Pointe in 2017, Rahul Gonuguntla has cultivated a dedicated following for his Indian cuisine. After opening the first location in Mayfield, the operator went on to add others in Parma and Aurora.

“We are technically South Indian – I come from a place called Hyderabad, which is very famous for its biryani – but we pretty much offer a combination of everything,” he says.

Two years ago, Gonuguntla opened a fourth location at the Carnegie Food Hub, a collection of carry-out and delivery-only ghost kitchens. When I spoke with him at the time, he described the move as “testing the waters.”

“Depending on how things go, we might pick up a location downtown,” he said at the time.

Apparently, the numbers checked out; in the coming months, Gonuguntla will open a full-serve restaurant downtown as he had hoped. The property at 1116 Chester Ave. had been home to IC Fitness, a 24-hour gym, before being redeveloped into a restaurant space.

When it opens in February or March, this newest Paradise Indian will be a 50-seat restaurant serving lunch and dinner seven days a week. Gonuguntla says that the restaurant will serve food late into the night, until 1 or 2 a.m. (though likely carry-out and delivery only after a certain hour).

“Our busiest time at the downtown Food Hub is between 10 and 1 a.m.,” he explains.

The location at the Carnegie Food Hub will remain open until the new downtown location takes its place.
