As another hot weekend scorches Cleveland, we put together a few activities to safely occupy your time, either in the water or air-conditioned spaces. Some require online reservations to enable social distancing, so make sure to look at the websites provided in the captions before heading out.
Go On The Brewboat
5300 Whiskey Island Dr., Cleveland
Drinking? Check. Boating? Yep. Getting a work out? You bet. Brewboat, Ohio’s first and only human-powered cycleboat is a wonderful way to get outside, see the city, and have some brewskis. This totally unique experience holds up to 14 people at a time and heads down the Cuyahoga River so check it out.

What is there better to do on a hot summer day then cool down with some ice cream? With a plethora of local options, you’ll surely find something you love.

12001 State Rt. 282, Garretsville
About 40 miles East from Cleveland on 422, you’ll find Nelson Ledges Quarry Park, where you’ll find one of the best campgrounds and natural sights around. Whether you just went to go camping, jump off the quarry or see some live music, you should visit this place. In August alone, there are three music festivals at the park.

Catching waves on Lake Erie seems like an urban legend, but trust us, it does happen! While winter is the best (and most insane) time of year to get some big surf action, there’s still plenty of water to ride around on in warmer months. Since all of our local waves are caused by wind, you’ll have to wait for the proverbial perfect storm to get some serious action. Edgewater is the best place to go. Various Locations
It’s just like surfing. Kind of. If you want the feeling of catching a wave without worrying too much about swallowing mouthfuls of Lake Erie water or coming into contact with whatever creatures lurk beneath its surface, stand up paddling may be more up your alley. Stand on something that closely resembles a surfboard and glide calmly through the water as you push off with a paddle: a sort of surfing and kayaking hybrid. Huntington Beach and Edgewater both have this activity.

Seeing a movie from the car sounds to us like a perfect activity for the hot weather. With five theaters around Northeast Ohio, you’re sure to find one close to you. Just make sure you crank the AC up.

5563 Raiders Rd., Frazeysburg
Close to the World’s Largest Basket but much lesser known stands the World’s Largest Basket of Apples. Also once owned by the basket company Longaberger, the basket stands close to 20 feet tall. Credit:@SneakyPanda/InstagramGet Lost at the Cleveland Museum of Art
One of the best art museums around sits on East Boulevard just waiting for you. The world-renowned collection spans continents and eras, from Italian Renaissance to modern, from ancient Greece to African, and more. Obviously, always more. Spend a day getting lost.

2516 Market Ave., Cleveland
The competition for this particular award gets steeper every year with the absolute explosion of local breweries in Northeast Ohio. But Great Lakes, which opened in Ohio City in 1988, is still the archbishop of Cleveland’s microbrewery diocese and it continues to innovate even as it pumps out its standbys. Whether you’re trying something fresh and experimental at the pub or buying a six-pack from Dave’s, Great Lakes is the city’s beer — and that’s not changing anytime soon.

Nothing like jumping into a beautiful quarry for a swim on a hot summer day. There are at least eight quarries located within a couple hours drive and it makes for a really fun time.
