The Cinematheque kicks off a seven-week
Seven Samurai Films series this weekend with
Samurai Rebellion. The 1967 sword-and-kimono epic about an aging warrior who takes on a tyrannical ruler doesn’t stray far from the genre’s usual tropes. No matter — fast and furious slicing and dicing skills are what we’re looking for from this series, and we won’t be disappointed. On tap are faves like
Three Outlaw Samurai,
Sword of Doom, and
Harakiri — all of which will look familiar to anyone who’s seen Quentin Tarantino’s
Kill Bill movies.
