As a touring comedian, Jake Johannsen sees a lot of things. And he likes to share nearly every detail of his travels with audiences or whoever’s listening. “There’s a Starbucks right across from me at the hotel,” he says. “There’s a Starbucks across from everywhere right now. They’re actually right across from each other in some places.” Johannsen even chats up folks about his most mundane tasks — like a recent toaster-purchasing trip to the mall, where a salesman tried to lure him to a fancy eight-slice model. “Like I’m going to have the Brady Bunch over for toast,” says Johannsen, who settled for a basic version: “It’s about a foot long and extra wide — in case they invent some new kind of bread. Because you know the Japanese are working on some new bread right now to make our toasters obsolete.”
