Dancevert will be missed, and not just by 14-year-old boys.

After 20 years in Cleveland, modern-dance group Dancevert is relocating to Washington, D.C. The troupe snagged eight Ohio Arts Council excellence awards for its choreography over the past couple decades. Co-directors Susana Weingarten and Tom Evert have performed shows at pretty much every venue in town – from Playhouse Square to the Cleveland Museum of Art. We’ll miss them. We’ll also miss their innovative dances, which often featured Weingarten’s naked rack, which was pretty cool. — Michael Gallucci

  1. Yes wll miss them. To bad Cleveland doesn’t treat artist like Miami, L.A. & N.Y.
Don’t blame em for leaving…. To frickin cold & boring in Ohio too!
Be glad when I live in Cali…
Much love to Tom & Sus though. They worked their asses off for local public school, teaching freestyle dance to children and the rest of us…
    Good luck in D.C.
    Sincerely

P’s yes the nude art is nice to see in our Puritanical society!

  2. Farewell, my friends Susana & Tom—
We will miss you and your wonderful efforts at bringing beauty and substance to dance in Cleveland, and all around the world. I love naked athletic bodies as much as the next person, but you have given us sooooo much more over the past 20 years, so thank you for everything and best wishes in DC (one of my favorite places).
    Peace,
    Brooke

  3. To Michael Galucci.
Well thank you for a real nice fare-well article …20 years of super HARD work,( love it though) and let’s face it…..we got around through every venue in the city and the state, not to mention touring much of the nation and the globe which we are still doing…..even more as a matter of fact…..You know Michael,I think that The scene Mag. is cool, but you guys try a little too hard to be “funny” ( like your comment of my rack…which actually I find it very typical of Clevelanders …..kind of bulgar and distastefull, mainly because come on! I am a fine Artist, an Artist in Education, and have done so much in that town! anyway , I just open the site after a long relocation and a long tour and many trips abroad, and realize, Thank God we are continuing our careers….somewhere else. I know that we enriched that town much more than people are conscious of….but many kids that will be or are already in the arts, students of us, won’t forget at all, and our audiences who participated much with us……..
In any case….one never knows, Tom is still working with the Cuyahoga Youth Ballet this Fall setting a new work……..maybe we will be valued better eventually….what matters is to be able to do what we love the most……that’s a BLESSING….to say the least.
    PEACE to you and CLEVELAND!
