You have two more chances (July 29 and 31) to see La Cenerentola, Rossini’s 1817 screwball comedy take on Perrault’s Cinderella. Lyric Opera’s South Beach resetting can be considered a concession to those opera-phobes who still have nightmares of fat broads wearing horns and yodeling on Valhalla. Forget Disney, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Italy, and rococo vixens. Instead, think John Waters (Polyester), midnight movies, zaftig mezzo-sopranos stuffed into ’50s swimwear, baritones making Elvis gyrations between high notes.
