The Akron Symphony Chorus celebrates its 50th anniversary today with a concert of its all-time greatest hits. Director James Mismas leads the group in a program culled from some of the 143-member ensembles most popular shows — including Frostiana: Choose Something Like a Star, When I Hear Music, and a selection from Aaron Coplands The Tender Land. Also on tap are a few new tunes (which serve as a preview of the Chorus next 50 years) as well as solos by four group members handpicked by Mismas. The show culminates in a performance of Battle Hymn of the Republic, a chorus fave. Be sure to cheer loud: The concert will be recorded for a CD that will be released later this year.
