John Mulrooney recalls the night he decided to become a stand-up comedian. It was like a revelation. Then he broke the news to his parents. I said, Mom, Dad — I found out what Im going to do with the rest of my life, he says. My father said, Im going to bed. My mother said, Why dont you come into the kitchen, and well make a cup of tea and talk about it.
Lately, Mulrooneys been busy promoting enlaughterment — which he describes as self-help with a punch line. I take an Aha! and make it an A-ha-ha!, he says.
