Chicago-based Celtic punks the Tossers don’t stray too far from the formula the Pogues concocted a couple of decades ago: Combine traditional Irish instruments (fiddles, tin whistles, accordions) with a dash of snarling fuck-you, and mix with a singer who sounds like he just downed a pint of whiskey. Shake it all up, and you’ve pretty much got all 17 songs on the Tossers’ latest album, Agony. While it’s tempting to call them Shane-come-latelys, the septet has actually been around longer than contemporaries like the Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly. And they play with just as much spit and spirit. Songs like “Siobhan” and “Did It All for You” are booze-soaked stompers that oughta rock even more furiously onstage.
