Robin Johnstone, one of the skating stars in Disney on Ice’s Princess Wishes, insists that the production appeals to boys just as much as it does girls. “We have a prince slaying a dragon and Aladdin and the Genie,” she says. “Boys like that.” But there’s no denying the girl-centric appeal of Disney’s latest skate extravaganza, which features center-rink solos from Ariel, Belle, Cinderella, Mulan, Jasmine, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White.

Unlike many Disney on Ice productions, Princess Wishes doesn’t follow a narrative. Rather, the characters make wishes — all of which involve sparkly tiaras, accessorized gowns, and ice skates. “We’re doing jumps and spins and kicks,” says Johnstone. “Thankfully, our costumes are skater-friendly. They’re not short little dresses.”
