More than 150 new cars line Main Street today for the Akron Auto Showcase, which features two dozen different brands. Twenty-five area dealerships take their inventory to the street for this event that promoters are billing as a “$4.5 million car strip.”
Folks have the opportunity to check out many foreign and domestic cars and trucks — from Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota, and others — without the hassle of a salesman breathing down their necks. Of course, this means you won’t be able to take a ride for a spin. Still, you can kick the tires, pop open the hood, and sit in the driver’s seat.
Food vendors, kids’ games, and giant inflatables also make the car-shopping experience less painful. Plus, local bands play throughout the day — including sets by singer-songwriter Anne E. DeChant and Majestic, a Journey tribute band. If “Don’t Stop Believin'” doesn’t get you in the mood for a new car, nothing will.
