Stones, pebbles, gems . . . The 39th annual Cleveland Area Gem and Mineral Show will celebrate whatever you dig about the loose formations of our planet at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds this weekend. More than 25 vendors from across the country will unload rocks, jewelry, and other mineral-related ornaments. You can probably talk sellers down for some real bargains, says show chairman John Zaborowski. Its not like going to a jewelry store, where $1,000 is $1,000, and thats it, he says.
Experts will be on hand with DIY exhibits and demonstrations, which cover such topics as wire-wrapping and copper-enameling. Plus, showgoers will have a chance to show off their cutting and polishing skills at various competitions. Dont be turned off because its called a rock, says Zaborowski. If you really take a look at some rocks, they are beautiful. Its amazing what these artists can do.
