Akron native Tom Guarino plays songs from his new CD, Lost Souls, at tonights free show at the Barking Spider. Now based in New York City, the acoustic rocker looks forward to showcasing his dark, soulful vocals. Youre so exposed and vulnerable, he says of solo performances. You cant hide behind anyone. But if people dig it, it becomes this intimate moment that lasts as long as you and the audience both dare. The University of Akron grad cites bluesman Keb Mo, jazz guitarist Stanley Jordan, and Argentinean composer Jorge Morel as influences. Im humbled by their belief in what they are doing, says Guarino. After a show like theirs, I feel like Ive been struck by lightning. Its a very contagious feeling for me.
