
– Those visitors include Minnesota’s Zeitgeist (“Spirit of the Times”), who will join Cleveland’s No Exit January 17 at the Bop Stop featuring world premieres by Christopher Goddard, Luis Daniel Jiménez, James Praznik & Timothy Beyer as well as works by John Cage and Jin Hi Kim. The program will be repeated at the January 18 at Heights Arts.
– The Cleveland Orchestra will welcome violinist Augustin Hadelich and conductor Elim Chan to Severance Music Center for a 7:30 program featuring Johannes Brahms’ Violin Concerto and Witold Lutosławski’s Concerto for Orchestra on Friday at 7:30 and again Saturday at 8.
– And Cleveland Chamber Music Society will present Franco-Swiss flutist Emmanuel Pahud with pianist Alessio Bax at Disciples Church on Tuesday at 7:30 in a program featuring works by J.S. Bach and Nicolas Bacri, plus Pahud’s arrangements of Mozart’s Sonata in e (K. 304), Clara Schumann’s Three Romances, and César Franck’s Sonata in A.
Local musicians will also be busy this weekend.
– On Saturday at 2, CityMusic Cleveland will play works by Hugo Wolf, Anton Webern, and Felix Mendelsson at Hudson Library, and on Saturday at 7:30, Christopher Wilkins will lead the Akron Symphony in George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with Theron Brown at the 88 keys and the Gospel Meets Symphony Choir in music by Omar Thomas, William Grant Still, and Leonard Bernstein in EJ. Thomas Hall.
– Back in Cleveland, On Sunday at 7, Daniel Reith & William Henry Caldwell will lead The Cleveland Orchestra and The Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Chorus, with Laquita Mitchell, soprano, and Aseelah Shareef, host, in the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration in Mandel Concert Hall at Severance Music Center.
