On his latest album, After Hours, Raul Malo covers a bunch of country classics made famous by legends like Buck Owens and Hank Williams. Seeing that Malo — the velvet-voiced former frontman of the Mavericks — is capable of making even one of Toby Keith’s meathead tunes come off like the most graceful come-on ever, it’s no surprise that he does wonders with this set of late-night ballads. “Welcome to My World” and “For the Good Times” have never sounded more elegant.

  1. I have a hard time understanding why it’s necessary to degrade one artist in order to build up another. I think Raul has a wonderful voice, and his talent should speak for itself. But, Toby Keith also has a wonderful voice, and is an amazingly talented singer, performer and songwriter. He gets degraded from all sides, and I’m sick of it. I’m quite sure you don’t care what I think, but I don’t just bypass insults against him.
