Thanks to having an interest in Edgar Allen Poe and H.P. Lovecraft, Danzig, who grew up in Lodi, NJ, in the ’70s gravitated toward horror at an early age. He channeled those impulses into the Misfits and Samhain before embarking on a solo career. Danzig had a big hit in 1988 with “Mother,” a grim song with bellowing vocals and a heavy guitar riff. While that song introduced him to the MTV generation, he's continued to steadily cultivate an underground fanbase in the wake of that success (and has even reunited Samhain on occasion). He comes to the Masonic Auditorium tonight at 6:30.
