Summer Foreign Film Fest

“It’s like spending your summer traveling the world!” says branch manager Aurora Martinez of the international film fest at the University Heights’ library. “Plus, it’s free!” She might have added that the foreign flicks can probably lend way more cred to your hipster claims than another screening of the Avengers. And with the lively post-film discussions moderated by foreign-film expert and librarian Zahir Sutarwala, they could even boost your brainpower. Tonight’s subtitled flick is from France: the 2009 Queen of Hearts, described by Filmleaf’s Chris Knipp as “a kooky little movie whose voiceovers…low-budget production, and witty, conceptual depiction of relationships ties it in very firmly with the (old) French New Wave.” (Actually, we feel smarter just writing that.) Like all flicks in the summer -long series, it begins at 6 p.m. The festival continues each Tuesday through July 31. Visit the library website for a schedule and film descriptions. Or give a call for more information.
