Cap’n Taco (16099 Brookpark Rd., 216-676-9830), an institution on Cleveland’s west side, will be closing its doors in two weeks. Since 1976, the modest drive-thru Mexican restaurant has been the source of countless taco, enchilada, burrito and tostada dinners. The last day of service will be Tuesday, August 12.

“It was not our decision. The property was sold and they do not wish to renew our lease,” said management.

In a statement, the owners thanked their customers for decades of support.

“Since 1976 we’ve had the honor of serving this community — hosting family dinners, first dates, anniversaries, graduations, and so many more beautiful moments. Words can’t express enough of our appreciation for your loyal support, friendship and patronage for the past 49 years. Thank you for letting us be a part of your lives for nearly half a century. We’re not just saying goodbye- we’re saying thank you. From the bottom of our hearts we’ll miss you!”

Fans of the famous tacos can purchase Cap’n Taco’s special seasoning packs so they can recreate the distinctive flavors at home.
