The fourth time apparently is a charm for Cleveland chef Jonathon Sawyer as he bested a talented group of chefs to claim Best Chef: Great Lakes in the 2015 James Beard Awards, which is taking place tonight in Chicago.

The chef-owner of Greenhouse Tavern, Trentina and Noodlecat restaurants beat out chefs Andrew Zimmerman, Curtis Duffy, Erling Wu-Bower, and Paul Virant.

It is the chef’s first James Beard Award.

For 25 years, Douglas Trattner has worked as a full-time freelance writer, editor and author. His work as co-author on Michael Symon's cookbooks have earned him four New York Times Best-Selling Author honors, while his longstanding role as Scene dining editor has garnered awards of its own.
