Fisher's, ‘Oldest Restaurant in Mayfield,’ to Close. Next up: BBQ

Last week we broke the news that Giovanni’s owner Carl Quagliata along with his chef of six years Zachary Ladner have plans to open a barbecue restaurant on the East Side. What we did not know for certain at the time was the exact location of that restaurant. 

Now we do – and it happens to be one of the longest-running restaurants in town: Fisher’s Tavern (718 SOM Center Rd., 440-473-4414).

According to Jim Linkas, his family already is in the process of selling the property to Quagliata.

“We’re just waiting for the deal to be done,” he says. “The employees know, the customers know; we’ve been very upfront with everybody.”

Linkas, his sister Christine and his parents Pat and Mary have been running the family friendly restaurant for 25 years. But that’s nothing compared to the Fisher’s, who in 1935 converted the family farmhouse into a roadside tavern. For 80 years, Fisher’s was the place to go for unfussy burgers and beers, steaks and chops, fish fries and family fun.

“I’m pretty sure it’s the longest running business in Mayfield Village, so a lot of older people are sad to see it changing,” Linkas adds. “But, you know, that’s the restaurant business now.”

Despite some very good years businesswise, especially of late, Linkas says the time was right to close this, the final chapter, on Fisher’s.

“My dad and mom are in their 80s and they’re kind of done with it, and it’s kind of too much for just one person,” he says.

Though an exact closing date has yet to be set, Linkas estimates it will be fast approaching given the amount of renovations needed to get the new restaurant ready for the planned spring opening. So consider this notice to pay your respects to the Linkases and Fisher’s Tavern, both of whom have served their community admirably for decades.
