Eric Williams, partner in Happy Dog, says that the bar will reopen this weekend after being shuttered for the past week in the wake of founder Sean Kilbane’s tragic death. The bar will open at 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and return to regular business hours and events this Monday.

“Kilbane was the heart and soul of the Happy Dog, a huge advocate for the Cleveland music scene and a great friend,” Williams says. “He will be deeply missed and the Happy Dog will do its best to continue his legacy.”

As for Happy Dog East, which was slated to open in the historic Euclid Tavern this spring, Williams says that plans currently are on hold and there have been no discussions regarding when or how he and partner Sean Watterson will proceed.

“We both will do what’s right but want to ensure the future success of Happy Dog in Gordon Square first,” says Williams.

  1. It is best to proceed with a more cautious approach in the coming months….the worst scenario is to take one massive stride and end up with a financial struggle and the associated headaches.

  2. Best wishes for them in the days and months going forward. This is a really rough situation to get through for everyone involved.
