There is a new option for fresh-baked bagels on the east side of town. Last month, JB Bagelry (5848 Mayfield Rd., 216-896-5615) opened in Mayfield Heights. Owners Jamie and Brad Kowit say they saw a gaping hole in the marketplace and sought to fill it.

Bagels are sold by the piece, half dozen or baker’s dozen. They can be ordered — toasted or untoasted — with a choice of schmears. Breakfast sandwiches are sold all day, with options filled with any combination of egg, meat, cheese and schmear. Heartier lunch sandwiches — on a bagel or in a wrap — star meats like salami, roast beef and turkey.

In addition to staple flavors like plain, salt, garlic, sesame, asiago and everything, the bakery offers bagel specials such as jalapeño cheddar everything, Cheez-It and Fruity Pebbles bagels.

Rounding out the menu is a roster of entrée salads filled with various meats, cheeses, veggies and greens.

The owners are well known in the area, having purchased the former DiCillo Tavern down the road and reopening it, in 2021, as the Tavern of Mayfield (6088 Mayfield Rd., 216-896-5600).

JB Bagelry opens at 7 a.m. every day but Monday.
