If you find yourself waiting for a table at Rosy or Amba, or simply in Hingetown looking for a bite and a drink, there’s a new place in the neighborhood to cool your heels. Tomorrow at happy hour, the doors to Bar at the Creative Hangars (2808 Church Ave.) in Ohio City will open, joining watering holes in the area such as Jukebox, Saucy Brew Works and Patron Saint.
Niko Atheneos and Ian Barrie took over the former Hangar building within the cluster of semi-circular buildings late last year as part of a reawakening taking place at the corner of Church and State. The creative compound opened in 2022, was transferred to Ohio City Inc. a year and a half later, and then ceased operations a little more than a year ago. Now the structures are in the hands of Graham Veysey, the property’s owner, who is shepherding a host of future developments.
Bar occupies the largest structure of the group. With roughly 500 square feet on the main floor and another 200 square feet on the mezzanine, the bar can accommodate about 45 guests. The main attractions are oysters and martinis, with a rotating selection of cold-water oysters paired with an assortment of martinis.
The oysters are joined by a concise roster of cold items such as shrimp cocktail, tuna tartare, caprese salads and Maine-style lobster rolls. Those dishes are joined by hot items like oysters Rockefeller, lobster nachos and roasted potatoes.
Of course there will be some bubbles – including champagne slushies – along with white and red wines by the glass.
