Phoenix Coffee to Open Next Week, Marking a Return to Warehouse District

[image-1]“I’ve always believed in this neighborhood and we’ve been eager to return,” says Christopher Feran, coffee director for Phoenix Coffee. “We’re hoping to bring our community vibe.”

The neighborhood in question is the Warehouse District, where the homegrown coffee company used to have a café. That shop was shuttered in 2011. Phoenix managed to stage a return by carving out a 650-square-foot parcel from Jimmy John’s, both in the former home of D’Vine Wine Bar on St. Clair between W. 6th and W. 9th.

All systems point to a soft opening next week, at which point the entire family of cafes will appear new and fresh.

“We’re actually undergoing a rebranding right now, and we’ll be launching our new logo and updated look at the same time,” Feran adds.

Also taking place now is a company-wide menu unification plan, whereby all five shops will largely adhere to the same playbook.

“It will mostly be modeled after the Ohio City menu, but with less emphasis on pour-overs since this is a downtown shop, where we’re hoping to achieve a balance between speed and quality,” he explains.

The cafe has limited indoor seating yet still manages to offer space for quick breaks, short meetings and interviews. Phoenix will also use the space outside the cafe along St. Clair for patio seating.

Pastry offerings will be supplied by Bon Bon, Metro Croissants and Philomena, along with bagels from Cleveland Bagel Company.

Phoenix Coffee operates additional cafes on E. Ninth, Coventry, Lee and Bridge, and a roastery on St. Clair.
