Back in May, we broke the news that former Lola and Bistro on Lincoln Park chef Cory Hess had inked a deal on one of the most looked-at properties in Gordon Square: the old City Grill.

Well, that project, which is gearing up for February opening, now has a name and a face to go with it.

Architect and neighborhood resident Robert Maschke, who is heading up the massive renovation project, has released the accompanying rendering of The Arcadian.

Located near the intersection of W. 65th and Detroit (6416 Detroit Ave.), the building that housed the neighborhood hamburger joint is being be gutted and rebuilt as an open bistro that will seat approximately 100 people.

Hess, a Johnson & Wales trained-chef, will take all the skills he’s gleaned while working in some of this city’s finest kitchens and repackage them into an approachable, neighborhood-friendly gastropub.

“I want it to be a friendly place — the kind of place I would like to hang out at after work,” says Hess. “But it’s still very much on the drawing board.”

  1. Can they build a treehouse in the massive tree inside the restaurant? Throw a table up there and it becomes the most popular table in the place.
