This morning in Orlando, the James Beard Foundation announced the semifinalists in the 2014 Restaurant and Chef Awards, and two Cleveland chefs made the cut.

In the category of Best Chef: Great Lakes:

Douglas Katz, Fire Food & Drink, Cleveland

Jonathon Sawyer, The Greenhouse Tavern, Cleveland

The next round of cuts occurs on Tuesday, March 18 when the finalists will be announced.

For 25 years, Douglas Trattner has worked as a full-time freelance writer, editor and author. His work as co-author on Michael Symon's cookbooks have earned him four New York Times Best-Selling Author honors, while his longstanding role as Scene dining editor has garnered awards of its own.
