The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975

Back in the late ’60s and early ’70s, a Swedish documentary crew gathered its cameras and pasty-looking reporters to get the scoop on the Black Power movement happening in the United States. The footage was originally shot for a TV show to be aired in Sweden, but instead it sat untouched in a studio basement for years, until a local filmmaker (whose past credits include Am I Black Enough for You and Fuck You, Fuck You Very Much) wove it all together with music and other contemporary images. Erykah Badu, Talib Kweli, and Questlove offer modern-day perspectives. It’s a fascinating if occasionally stiff view of the era, when a race war in the United States seemed imminent. October (Ten Days That Shook the World)
