Cleveland will join the ranks of cities such as Paris, London, Los Angeles, and Beijing this spring when we host a premiere of the new film Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

“It was a massive priority for us to do this in Cleveland, and the Marvel and Disney people agreed,” co-director Joe Russo recently told Cleveland.com. “We want to have a premiere that includes the local cast and crew and make some tickets available to the general public. It’s a way to say thanks and pay back the city for being such a great host.”

Details on the premiere are still scant, though reports say it is slated to take place on Tuesday, April 1. The film opens nationwide on April 4.

  1. The movie premiere is the film’s apology for closing down the shoreway and screwing up traffic. I’m still glad they’re having it here, though. It’s good when actual big events happen in Cleveland.

  2. A commitment to the city as a means to say thank you for the hospitality — since the Tribe starts the season on the road, Captain America will have that day all to himself.
