And yet, each summer, Connor Palace becomes home to Cinema at the Square, an attempt to transport Cleveland back to that golden age when going to see a movie was an event. The schedule for the 19th annual Cinema at the Square classic film series includes “fan-favorites” that will screen reel-to-reel on the largest non-Imax screen in Ohio. Tickets are $5. Flix Tix Passes, good for six films, cost $15.
All screenings feature classic movie theater concessions and pre-show cartoons and shorts. Members of the Western Reserve Theatre Organ Society will play music on a restored 1928 Kimball organ, and each film will screen on a huge wide screen using an original 35mm reel-to-reel projector operated by a live human being.
Tickets are available at the Playhouse Square Ticket Office, by phone at 216-241-6000 and online at playhousesquare.org/cinema. Groups of 10 or more can call Playhouse Square at 216-640-8600 to inquire about a group discount.
