Holy George. Watch the trailer for A More Civil War, a documentary about the RNC in Cleveland, above.

Produced by the local outfit Think Media Studios, the documentary features some of the best footage of the convention we’ve seen. And while the four-day assault on the city in July was notable for a lack of violence — more civil, indeed — the trailer shows just how many protests and philosophical collisions occurred on the downtown streets.

Can’t wait for this puppy.

  1. Ok that’s my son but…..but nothing! This is genius and I applaud Brian and his fabulous team, best of breed filmmakers!

  2. From what I just watched, it looks like it was very well-made, but like most trailers, this one shows as much conflict, physical or otherwise, as possible. Just like action films (and other genres) highlight every violent scene possible, so does this one.

I spent a good deal of time in Public Square during those four days in July, and expected the worst, including gunfire and mass casualties and multiple deaths. But there was remarkably little actual violence. Downtown was locked down for the most part. and the physical and implied/unseen presence of heavy security (including National Guardsmen billeted at Case Western) kept the craziest of the crazies away. Most of the confrontations were verbal…there was a lot of mouth music but very little chin music.

Gotta wonder if I’m in any crowd scenes, and am looking forward to possibly spotting myself. I was in Chicago in ’68 and ended up in Haskell Wexler’s “Medium Cool”…at least the back of me did. It was hard to miss that blue-and-white McCarthy sticker on the back of my jacket during the riots cenes in grant PArk.
