Valley View is Latest Local Movie Theater to Get Luxury Recliner Overhaul

As of this week, the local AMC locations at Westwood Town Center and Ridge Park Square will no longer have the market cornered on luxury leather seating at the movies. Cinemark's Valley View Theater, the region's biggest and glitziest, will introduce the Cinemark "Luxury Loungers" in four theaters as early as tomorrow (pending an inspection).

The lounge seating, featuring "plush, electric-powered, oversized lounge chairs, with footrests and cup holders," come after extensive cosmetic upgrades at the theater in 2016. Though the recliners will initially appear in only four auditoriums, the plan is to eventually revamp all theaters with the improved seating option.

There is no surcharge for the luxury loungers.

The luxury seating at Valley View is part of a national campaign to improve seating at Cinemark properties. In the past few months alone, Cinemark has announced plans to install leather recliners at theaters in Ypsilanti, MI; Rochester, NY; Amarillo, TX; and Rancho Mirage, CA.

The recliners, while truly plush, have encouraged serious snoozing at the AMC locations in Cleveland, something we noted in our pre-RNC local movie theater guide

Though the recliners take up considerably more space than traditional movie theater seats, thereby reducing the total number of available seats per auditorium, AMC had hoped to attract and retain customers with state-of-the-art comfort.
