A Northeast Ohio Native, Singer-Songwriter Sandy Bell to Open for Rachael Yamagata at the Music Box

Born in Parma, singer-songwriter Sandy Bell comes from a modest background. Her father was an ice delivery man and community college teacher while her mother worked at hotels, grocery stores and the local horse track.

Bell moved to Los Angeles in the '80s and began collaborating with fellow singer-songwriters like the late, great Jeff Buckley.

After going through a rough patch, she emerged in 2014 with When I Leave Ohio, an album of intensely quiet songs she wrote in the wake of her father’s death.

She returns to town to open for Rachael Yamagata at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9. The concert takes place at the Music Box Supper Club.

Bell, who now lives in Woodstock, New York, says she’s particularly excited for the Music Box show.

“I love Cleveland so much, so this show feels extra, extra special,” she says in an email exchange. “I have lots of friends and family there.”
