Tiesto, one of the world’s best and most widely recognized trance DJs — a dude who regularly spins in Ibiza and other electronic dance music hotbeds — is heading to little old Cleveland.
At the forefront of the EDM-DJs-as-superstars phenomenon, Tiesto’s career blew up in the late 90s. He then started performing solo sets that drew huge crowds, helping start the trend of trance DJs performing solo shows like concerts.
He’ll be spinning on September 10, at Metropolis. Check out promoter Mike Mellon’s Myspace page for more info. — TK Kim

Ha ha ha ha that is the funniest thing I read today besides the ” funny” so long paragraph about Dancevert leaving this town…( kind of funny but sad that one has so little to say about a company of World class dancers and artists in education that gave this town so much for so long….not just a nice nude show…..nothing to do with whatever is understood anyway.)
Ibiza is a gorgeous super cultural….amazing city in Spain….what would that have to do with Cleveland? Tieso …it is fabulous he will be here…but that won’t make Cleveland an Ibiza….Ha ha ha ha
Get your asses out to metropolis tonight. Let’s show Tiesto that Cleveland loves trance!
Tiesto did a ho hum performance which was in the shadow of Detroit Dj, Kenneth Thomas who both opened and closed. Kenneth had a lot of punch and a much cleaner sound than Tiesto did even though both used the same equipment. About a third of Tiesto’s CD’s sounded compressed and had garbled bass and subs whereas Kenneths had much more impact, crisp highs and gutwrenching lows thru the system. Kenneth also spent most of his time at the mixer whereas Tiesto seemed lost staring at and leafing thru his cd binder time after time. I was blown away by the light show and some of the visual show, why the video’s hadto climax at the end when being so boring is beyond me, it was the same thing over and over. They also only used the laser during Kenneths show but is was replaced in Tiesto’s by a helluva lot of bright white lights synced up to Tiesto’s crescendo’s and also a huge led bar graph on the front of the booth as well.
The club needs a smoking patio, security had to physically throw smokers out of the restrooms, some out of the club and even arrested. This after many fans were angered by the slow lines due to the presale online sales on one computer terminal. It was also very humid and a bit warm creating additional discomfort. Hey, some of us don’t drink Sky!
I also spent some time in the Cleveland room where I heard at least 2 local dj’s who were impressively playing to a couple hundred people oblivious to the big show in the main room.
For this show not being well advertised, turnout was good, nowhere near sold out. Perhaps being on a Monday in Cleveland on 9-11 and $30-50 dollar tickets was the reason.
The other is that trance is dead here, evidenced by the lack of any regular trance club nights.
I’ll give the entire experience a 7 out of 10
